Some people like fall because of Halloween. Some like it because it’s “back to school” time and that means a routine again. Some enjoy the season because it means that Thanksgiving and Christmas are getting near. I enjoy it for all these reasons too, but my favorite? The changing colors, which means I am using my camera a lot more than usual!
As soon as the leaves start changing and the trees begin waving them down from their tall, beautiful branches, I’m out snapping pictures. I do everything from trees to leaves, Homecoming and other sporting events, to outdoor festivals, Halloween, and tailgating parties! There are so many things to do with pictures besides just admire what beauty there is, too! Here are some of my favorite ideas.
Get your kids involved! Grab a few rakes and get a pile of leaves together. Dress your kids (and your spouse) in sweaters comfortable enough for fall, and either get a friend (or a timed camera) and take some pictures! I especially love using these pictures for when we send out our Christmas cards. While it’s nice to get Christmas cards where the people in the picture actually look like they’re enjoying their own Christmas, it’s not always realistic due to the wet, snowy weather and other conditions that can interfere. When you’re done doing a few “nice” pictures, take some of your kids candidly- like as they throw leaves up in the air, jump in the pile, or pick an apple off a tree. You’ll have pictures- and memories!
Another wonderful thing you can do with your fall pictures, if you enjoy crafts as much as I do, is start scrapbooking! Of all places to look, I’ve found the best quality and prices for scrapbooking supplies at my local dollar store! I can’t beat that! So take a few pictures, head to your local craft store (be sure to check out a dollar store if you have one!), and pick out some beautiful patterns, papers, brads, buttons, stamps, and anything else you can find to help make your scrapbook page a memorable one!
